What Causes Muscle Cramps While On Lisinopril And Flomax?

I am 59 old male. I have been treated with high blood pressure with a daily 5mg of lisinopril for 10 years. I also take flomax nightly for bph. I run 4 miles 5 days a week. I am 5 7 175 lb. I have experienced occasional muscle cramps. Usually in my thighs, but also under my right rib cage. Historically I have drank a lot of fluids. Powerade, decaf diet coke, unsweet decaf tea, 6-10 oz of coffee in morning before I run. (with 12 oz of diet coke and maybe a couple of drinks of powerade, pre run) Last week I experienced some fluttering in my chest, and light headedness. I went to the firestation and had the paramedic check my bp--- 136/73. I told him my story and he said I was dehydrated. I drank about 10 oz of water and my symptoms went away. Since then, I have drank mostly water through the day. (still 6-10 oz of coffee in morn before run) but I am drinking lots of water. Now I wake up 2x a night needing to urinate but also with a dry mouth. Also I have frequent bowel movements, many times very loose. Usually two bm s pre run. I have no shortness of breath, no chest pain, just this flutter. I feel very slightly weak or tingly in my legs.--basically I am just a little off my stride for lack of a better term.

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

Since you are on a diuretic, the most concerning thing is changes in potassium levels in the body. Disruption of electrolyte balance can result in muscle cramps and cardiac rhythm abnormalities. Please be advised to undergo serum electrolyte assessment and EKG to identify the underlying issue.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
