What Causes Muscle Pain While On Vitamin D Supplements?

I recently found I am very deficient Vitamin D. I am now taking a vitamin D tablet daily. I never had aches and pains in my joints before (though the doctor did tell me vitamin D deficiency can cause fatigue and aches) but after about a month of taking this supplement I developed aches and pains mainly on getting up in the morning. Can taking this be draining my system of some other essential substance? I am female and 68 years old. Thank you.

Hi,
Vitamin D won't drain your system of any other essential substance if you are taking it at the right dose. Vitamin D deficiency can cause fatigue and aches and also Vitamin D intake can also cause muscle aches. In many patients, these aches can be transient.
I would have advised my patient to get report on current Vitamin D levels and decide on supplementation. I hope you are on calcium supplements too. If not adding calcium to your vitamin D may help.
