What Causes Muscle Soreness In The Back While On Atorvastatin?

I started taking 1 time per day 10 mg of atorvastatin 2 weeks ago Monday. I have muscle and soreness in the middle of my back to left side. I just figured out that the 2 may be related. Do I need to seek medical attention immediately or is it something that can wait til Monday.

Hi,

We will try to help you in the best way possible. First of all it's sad to know what you had been going through lately.

Based on the history you have shared, you need to immediately stop the medicine and consult medical facility for renal functions and LDH levels as well as blood gases done.

Atorvastatin may cause myopathy and rhabdomyolysis. Hydration and supportive therapy may be helpful to control the problem.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
Dr Saddiq Ulabidin, General & Family Physician
