What Causes Muscle Spasms Around Waist Radiating To Back?

Today I experienced what felt like a muscle spasm that started around my waist and radiated to my back that felt like a squeezing sensation. It only lasted about 30 seconds. I was sitting in a chair watching tv. This is about the 6th time this has happened in the last year. The only thing I could find online was a description of the ms hug that described what I felt. While researching MS I also found that a sticking behind the eye sensation can also be an early sign of MS. I had that sticking about a year ago however that went away. Can these symptoms that seem to come and go be related?
