What Causes Muscle Spasms In Shoulder And Neck Region?

I had viral meningitis almost a year ago and it was pretty bad. I was in the hospital for ten days and wasn't healed for about 2 and half months. After I started having a lot of little muscles twitches all over my body, like the kind you get on your eye when you're tired. But they have been slowly escalating and now I get these large spasms in the upper half of my body where my shoulders contract and my neck muscles contract and my head whips to the right uncontrollably. I can feel them coming about a second or two before it happens and it feel almost like I am about to yawn and the feeling is only alleviated once the twitch subsides. Any ideas as to what this could be and if I should see a doctor?
