Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
What Causes Muscle Spasms Under The Left Rib And Back While On Atenolol?
I am a somewhat fit and healthy (4 11 , 110 lbs) 53 year old woman being treated for hereditary high blood pressure with Atenolol. Last night I began having intermittent spasms under my left rib cage, middle of the torso (versus toward the abdomen), toward the back (almost right below my left shoulderblade). I am still having them today (again, intermittently) and so am wondering if I should be alarmed and schedule an appt with my doctor, either as a followup or urgently.
It is not related to atenolol. It could be due to muscle spasm or conditions like costochondritis.
As first line management, you can take analgesics like paracetamol or aceclofenac for pain relief. If symptoms persist better to consult a physician and get evaluated.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Take care
Regards,
Dr Shinas Hussain, General & Family Physician
