What Causes Nail Infection Resulting In Discoloration And Becoming Hard?

I have a nail infection. It s been worrying me for some time no. My nail has discoloured and become hard. It started with a hole between my nail and the nail bed. I also saw a swelling of the skin around my nail. It was painless at first but it s very painful now. I have taken ketasol and used daktarin tincture as prescribed by a pharmacist but I haven t seen any progress. What can it possibly be

Based on your description, it sounds like a fungal infection.

Fungal infections of the toenails , finger nails or scalp require oral anti fungal medication. These infections do not resolve with topical medication alone.

You would need to visit your doctor for a prescription for a oral anti fungal. Toenail infections normally require an extended course (6 weeks to 3 months).
