What Causes Nasal Congestion After An Eye Socket Fracture?

My son has an eye socket fracture and is not supposed to blow his nose but has a cold and sinus congestion. Can t blow nose due to possible eye movement until fracture heals. Is a bulb syringe a good alternative? What about saline to loosen up thick mucous?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

Saline can be used to help with nasal congestion and otrivine drops is another option if he can use. Medications can help to break up the mucus (mucolytics) example Mucinex.

An antihistamine/decongestant combination may also help him example Benadryl, Allegra, Claritin, and Zyrtec. Using enough fluids also decreases thickness.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
