What Causes Nasal Congestion Along With Cough And Sneezing?

My son just turned six. He went to bed last Thursday with very minor signs of a cough. He then woke up Friday not feeling well at all and it has continued over the weekend. We have kept him relaxing for the most part. His symptoms include a stopped up nose, a cough, some sneezing, and tonight I was able to hear a rattling noise in his chest when he would take deep breaths.
He is supposed to run in a fundraiser run tomorrow which would be a pretty decent amount of running. I think we should keep him home and my husband thinks it is okay to let him run. The temp is also low 60s here in the afternoon. We could use some advice on what to do please.

Thanks for the query..

It looks like your son has an upper respiratory tract infection and it is the cause of all the symptoms like cough, nose congestion, sneezing and wheezing..

So first of all he should be taken to Emergency for proper medication like decongestants and cough suppressants..
Along with it Acetaminophen can be given to reduce any pains or rise in temperature..

Also put saline nasal drops to unclog the nostrils, do steam inhalation and use a humidifier in hos room.
Avoid spicy or chilled foods and drink plenty of warm water..
I would not suggest running as he needs rest and running can further make him sick..
Do cool compresses over his chest..
A spoonful of honey can help in reducing cough..
