What Causes Nasal Congestion And Cough In A Child Despite Giving Cefdinir?

my almost 3 year old has been sick on and off and has had several antibiotics this winter he is currently on a 3 week scrip of cefdinir he has been on it for 5 days and is still leaking yellow from his sinus and eyes with a nasty cough that doesnt allow hi to sleep? any suggestions? his temp is either normal to 101, but doesn t always have one

I have gone through your query and can understand your concerns..

As per your complain it seems that your son is suffering from viral infection leading to nasal discharge, cough and rise in body temperature..
As viral infection does not resolve with antibiotics, therefore if h is given Cefnidir that is an antibiotic, the symptoms will not improve even after taking it for long duration..
I would however suggest you to consult an Otolaryngoloist or a Paediatrician and get him evaluated and a thorough clinical evaluation and investigations like Blood culture, sputum culture can help in diagnosis and treated accordingly..
In case of viral infection he can be given supportive treatment like cetaminophen to control rise in body temperature, cough suppressant syrup along with anti allergics like benadryl and also do warm saline gargles, steam inhalation and use a humidifier in your room..
Saline nasal sprays can be given to loosen mucous and ease in drainage..
Chewing a Vitamin C pellet daily can help in improving immunity..
Feed him with bland and light diet with plenty of water and fluids..
Give him ample of rest..
