What Causes Nausea, Abdominal Cramps And Diarrhea While On Antibiotics?

Hi I have a sebaceous cyst on my cheek that I suspect is infected as the whole area is inflamed, tender & swollen I have been prescribed anti-biotics but on the 1st day of taking these I feel nauseous, hot, stomach cramps & diarrhoea. Is this a reaction to the anti biotics, should I change them? I didn t feel great before the tablets so wondered if it may be down to the infection anyway? Thanks

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

It looks like a reaction to the antibiotics you took. You should always tell the doctor beforehand about the medicines that don't suit you or those to which you are sensitive.

Stop the medications & report to the treating doctor so that he can change the antibiotics. Avoid alcohol, smoking & addictions while you are being treated to prevent the risk of side effects. The efficacy of the medicines also decreases.

Get your sebaceous cyst treated neglect may become large & may require surgical removal.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Nupur K, General & Family Physician
