Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Hi Doctor (s) I m currently on my second year with Nexplanon, I don t usually use recreational Marijuana but I smoked a tiny bit on Wednesday of last week. It s been a little over 10 days since I ve smoked (9/10/16 today) I did get full effects of it. My bf and I had sex afterwards and he didn t use a condom because he was all out of them. My questions is, Does marijuana affect the contraceptive? My bf usually uses a condom but this is the only time we didn t use one! Also, I don t have a regular menstrual cycle, there will be months where I don t get a period at all. This has been going on even before I started using this birth control, so I can t really know if I m pregnant or not. I ve only been having nausea, I feel like it could be the greasy food I ate these past few days. Any advice will help!
You can't be pregnant while on Nexplanon as there are very fewer chances of conceiving, but If you become pregnant while using NEXPLANON, you have a slightly higher chance that the pregnancy will be ectopic (occurring outside the womb).
Ectopic pregnancies can cause serious internal bleeding, infertility, and even death. Call your health care provider right away if you think you are pregnant or have unexplained lower stomach (abdominal) pain.
