Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
What Causes Nausea And Diarrhea When Diagnose With Diverticulitis?
My mother has diverticulitis and she had to take really strong antibiotics for 6 days then 2 days in the hospital with a drip. She got out 10 days ago but still feels weak, nauseous at times and has bouts every day with bad diarrhea. She is taking pills to help with that but it happens every day. What else should I be concerned about
Since, she had been on antibiotics developing diarrhea raises concern for C difficile infection (commonly known as antibiotic-associated diarrhea). Stool toxin analysis is required to confirm the diagnosis. Treatment is with Metronidazole.
Please be advised to follow-up with your primary care provider to confirm the diagnosis and appropriate treatment. Meanwhile, drink plenty of fluids and stay hydrated.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards, Dr. Lekshmi Rita Venugopal
