What Causes Nausea And Feeling Of Having Lump In Throat?

40 year old female experiencing feeling of having a lump in the throat and nausea for 13 weeks. This is a constant sensation though the level of discomfort can range anywhere from a 3-9. My food usually (but not always) feels as though it goes down slowly. I have had an upper endoscopy with GI as well as biopsy s of the esophagus. GI had me on 20 mg of Omeprozol for 2 weeks before and one week after with no positive change to symptom. All scope and biopsy came back completely normal. No food allergy, no reflux, no swelling or deformity. GI released me from care and I now have had a referral to ENT, where they had discovered the space between the esophagus and larynx was swollen, red and corrugated. ENT placed me back on 20 mg Omeprozol (but now twice a day) for 4 weeks stating that even though everything came back normal that the likely cause was reflux. I am now almost 3 weeks into this dose with no relief to the symptoms, and have actually had my worst day of nausea this week and had to miss a day of work. I also had an incidence last evening where I was drinking water and turned my head as I was swallowing. I had severe pain in my throat and experienced almost a popping sensation in the same location that I feel the pressure, and now have referred pain through the left side of my neck and up through my jaw. The discomfort I feel almost feel as though is within my glands. My left ear and eye is also just slightly achy as well. Still also experiencing the lump in the throat sensation and nausea.

Hi,

I cannot say in your particular case and if it isn't a structural problem then it is the more common motility issue. Esophageal spasm or dysmotility is very common.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
