What Causes Nausea And Fever After Taking Nitrofurantoin?

Thank you. I have a question about side effects. I am 59 y/o and was diagnosed with a UTI. My GYN prescribed Nitrofurantoin Mono/Mac and I took that for 1 1/2 days. I had side effects to that resembling the flu including sweats, 102+ fever, chills, aches all over, etc. and I had a flu shot about 4 weeks prior. He told me that those are a common allergic reaction to the medication and took me off immediately and put me on Cipro. The flu symptoms went away immediately I finished the Cipro yesterday. I am now having a low grade nausea almost daily and wonder if could be related to the antibiotic regimen. If so, is there anything I can do?

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service.
I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

Nausea can be a side effect of the antibiotic that you are taking. I suggest you to take over the counter option like Raglan three times a day.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Dorina Gurabardhi
