What Causes Nausea And Smelly Stool When Diagnosed With Proctalgia Fugax?
Hi Dr., I have been diagnosed with Proctalgia Fugax and have been suffering from the same for the past 12 years. Of late, PF has become more severe and is accompanied by nausea, smelly stool and very thin feces. What could be the reason for this recent development? I have been on a less spicy, fresh food diet for over 5 years and I am in my mid 30s.
Proctalgia fugax is the condition in which there is pain in and around the anal canal due to spasm of the muscles with unknown etiology. It may occurs suddenly without any warning signs and lasts for about seconds to minutes. Treatment depends on the symptoms of the individual. If there is any trigger found, it should be treated simultaneously.
Constipation is one of the trigger causing proctalgia fugax. Indigestion with abnormal nutrient absorption can cause foul smelling stools. Dietary changes also cause smelly stools. Infection associated with diarrhoea and foul smelling stools are significant condition to look into the etiology. Take appropriate food intake and fibre rich diet helps to overcome come cause for foul stools.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Pradeepraj, General & Family Physician
