What Causes Nausea And Vomiting Along With Back Pain?

My father has COPD. Last night he couldnt sleep because of back pain on the right side mid. He also complained of shortness of breath and stomach cramping. He finally rested being woken up at 1230 this afternoon. His symptoms got worse and worse. He thought he could vomit. ON the way to the toilet he fainted. The ambulance wanted him to go to the hospital. He refused. I think he s still achy and short of breath. How can I get him to go get checked out at the ED???
