What Causes Nausea And Vomiting While On Blood Thinners?
My husband is on blood thinners and last night experienced nausea accompanied by vomitting but complained his stomach felt full and hurt. He has not vomitted today and is having none of the symptoms of his last heart attack. he is running a small 99.9 fever. Still a little nauseated but vomitting in the past 12-14 hours
Greetings Welcome to Healthcaremagic. The most common "blood thinner" or anti platelet therapy that is generally advised is salicylic acid , which is given in a wide varity of condition and many times just to prevent stroke or heart attack. And the most common side effect of salicylic acid is gastritis it taken on empty stomach or if not taken in enteric coated preparations. Gastritis means inflammation of the stomach which is caused when the protective barrier of the stomach is removed by such medication .
Nausea and vomiting is usually due to gastric problems and i see gastritis due to blood thinners as the cause which is most likely. But there are other causes also . if after taking proton pump inhibitors like pantoprazole with blood thinner , the problem still persists then it is advised to visit your doctor who will do examination and write some important tests to rule out other problems.
