Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
What Causes Nausea, Excessive Sweating And Vomiting After Accidental Ingestion Of Acetaminophen?
Hi, my daughter is 23 and accidently took 2,000mg of acetaminophen about 4:00 pm. She started having nausea and then sweats, with vomiting. Is this a sign she had an overdose? She did not read the label and is used to taking 800mg of ibuprofen for her cycle.
Hi & Welcome. I can understand your concern for your daughter. Symptoms are suggestive of Acetaminophen toxicity. Since she has taken larger therapeutic dose of Acetaminophen she seems to have developed toxicity in particular liver injury which resulted in vomiting, sweating, etc. She needs to be taken to the ER immediately for further evaluation and management. She may need an antidote like N Acetylcysteine to prevent further liver damage. She also needs IV fluids for adequate hydration. Hope the suggestion given above could be useful to her.
