Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I went to the gym for a personal training session this morning. I keep fit by running regularly but have not done any free weights, squats/lunges for a long time. After doing two reps of 15 of two exercises, I became incredibly dizzy, light headed and nauseous. It did not improve after a minute or two and when I stood up (I had been crouched down) my vision was blurred and hearing muffled, I could barely walk. The personal trainer then got me a sugary drink and a banana and I began to feel better. I then went home and back to bed and when I woke up I had a headache and still do. I am quite shocked by this as I say, I am pretty fit from running regularly. I have been told in the past that I have low blood pressure so I m not sure if this may be the cause??
Hello, Dehydration is a major cause of your symptoms. Consume plenty of liquids. Evaluate your diet and make sure you have balanced vitamins. Follow up this episode with basic blood testing. You should have a glucose tolerance test which requires fasting to evaluate your blood sugar. Consider the need for a diabetes evaluation. Low blood pressure should be monitored with regular blood pressure testing. You can keep a record of this yourself and report this to your doctor. Depressed hydration can affect your blood pressure. Other medical conditions can affect blood pressure including cardiac and vessel disorders. Consult your doctor for additional advice and needs for diagnostic testing. Keep up with your annual physicals. Thank you for your inquiry.
