What Causes Nausea, Headache And Shivering Along With Appetite Loss?

My husband is an alcoholic and smokes at least a pack of self rolled cigs a day. He is 60yr, 5 5 and weighs 129 lbs. He can no longer tolerate the heat above 85 degrees w/o getting nauseated, shaky and a headache. He is fatigued all the time. His appetite is very poor. Skin is thin and is reddish blue in color. He coughs a lot and his sputum production is medium. This ranges from yellow to brown and is thick. His resp. rate is 20-24 at rest. Is this end-stage alcoholism? I need some recommendations for him.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

It may be due to viral infection.

For further assessment, you may require complete hemogram, peripheral smear for malaria parasites, dengue NS 1 after physician consultation.

For fever, you can take tablet acetaminophen. For vomiting take tablet ondensetron.

Keep your self hydrated and take balanced diet.

You may require antibiotics after consultation. Do steam inhalation and Betadine gargle.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr Shyam Kale, Family and general physician
