What Causes Nausea, Vomiting, Dizziness And Back Pain?

I need to know if I should go to the emergency room or wait and try to get into my doctor, who is always booked out a couple months. On Monday night of this week, I got very nauseous, and early Tuesday morning was vomiting (by early, I mean between 2 and 3 in the morning it started.) Tuesday and Wednesday I rested still feeling dizzy, lightheaded and nauseous. Thursday I returned to work, only to have my back start to spasm on me and start hurting so bad I could no longer move. I was send home to rest. I got home and needed help getting into the house where I took some pain pills my sister found of mine. they are Oxycodone/APAP 10/325. I took 2 of them and found no relief. Friday, I rested and alternated between ice and heat all day, and took more of the Oxycodone/APAP pills, taking one every 4 hours and only feeling minor relief as long as i was not moving. The second I moved, I took 5 steps and had to call for help as I was in too much pain to move on my own. Now, it s almost 3:30 AM on Saturday, I m still not able to move on my own and can barely move with help due to all the pain. I m having to have my family carry me to the bathroom and back. I don t want to go to the emergency room unless I have to because I have had similar pain, though not as severe, due to kidney stones or UTI s. Based on this description, what is your medical opinion? Should I go to the emergency room, or wait till I can get into my own doctor and see if it gets better with time?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

Your symptoms are manifestation of food poisoning. Though medical conditions like liver dysfunction, gall stones, kidney infection, UTI may have similar symptoms.

You are suggested to visit a GP. Get physically examined. Get CBC, Urinalysis, liver function tests as well as Imaging tests done to detect the source causing such discomfort.

Your treatment will depend upon the pathology detected. In the meantime stay away from smoking, alcohol or addictions if any. Take home made food, avoid oily spicy food. Take adequate rest & stay well hydrated.

Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Nupur K, General & Family Physician
