What Causes Nausea While On Atorvastatin And CoQ10?
After a 6 month break from being on Simvatatin for a few years, (I wanted to see what happened if I went off) my LDL and over all cholersterol went up, so Dr just put me on Atorvastatin. Been on it for just a week. I also started taking CoQ 10, at the advice of both my DR and pharmacist. I do not feel well. For just about a week (pretty much same time that I have been taking those 2) I feel extremely, abnormally tired. (I m always tired, but more then usual) Also just feel generally yucky - as in a bit queasy or mildly nauseated much of the time, and stomach just feels off . Could there be any connection - between either the Atorvastatin or the CoQ10?
There is only a minor interaction between co-enzyme Q and Atorvastatin. Atorvastatin decreases the levels of co enzyme Q. Though co-enzyme can be well tolerated in some persons, in others it can be associated with nausea. Fatigue is not a known side-effects but persons react differently to medication. I hope this helps.
Hopefully this clarifies your concerns. Thank you for the query.
Take care
Regards,
Dr. Michelle Gibson James, General & Family Physician
