What Causes Neck And Occipital Pain?

my neck started hurting in the middle of the day as if it was stiff or something , it hurts real bad at the base of my skull and up it radiates to the top of my head, the most painful area to touch is just down from my ear on my neck. It throbs and i can t hardly move my head, any ideas?
