What Causes Negative Hair Follicle Test Result Despite Being On Heavy Narcotics?

I have a serious question as the situation is very concerning to me. I have been on pain management for several years now, being prescribed Oxycodone HCI 10mg 4x a day. I ve been dealing with legal matters that have been requiring me to do Hair Follicle testing. The first one they gave me came out negative. I didn t think much of it at first. But after a long hospital stay in which I was given Demerol, Dilaudid, Morhpine, Oxycodone, and Fentinyl, I was sure that my Hair Follicle 3 weeks later would provide a positive result. But my Hair Follicle came out NEGATIVE. The only medical condition that I have that I would think could possibly cause this is Type 1 Diabetes. But through all my research I have found nothing. How is it possible that my hair follicle came out negative, having been given such heavy narcotics?

Hello there,
It depends on the kind of test that you were subjected to. There are tests called tandem tests that are performed when they check for narcotics to rule out prescription narcotics as they give false positive results. Medical conditions can mask a narcotic to some extent but not give outright negatives.
