Hello,

As your MIL is 80, it is common thinking in all geriatric patients about becoming nervous and depressed. They talk more about death than anything else. The reason for this is not the medication but the ageing factor.

In my experience of 12 years I have seen all age groups ranging from 70-107 . all talks same but when they indulge in physical exercise and become capable of doing their ADL (activities of daily living) by themselves and then they become positive and much alive to live.

My grandmother herself is 85 now. she does regular exercise with me and is full of life.

We need to be positive in our approach towards them with good thoughts, communication with them, making them involved in their interest talks (which might be boring for us), making them exercise so they can perform ADL by their own, make them travel with us for the tour etc.

I think you should try a different approach to therapy then thinking about the negative.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
