What Causes Nightmares Along With Sporadic Temperament?

Hi Dr., my 27-month son fell last Monday. His forehead hit what we believe was the square leg of the wood dining chair... From running in the house. He cried briefly and would not allow ice. Today is Saturday. He had a 1-inch x 1/2 inch diameter goose egg which has since gone down. It was raised maybe 1/2 cm or more. The bruising and discolouration are also improving. He has no other symptoms except a full night of bad dreams last night and perhaps is a bit more tempermental sporadically this week. Is this just the terrible twos or is it related to his fall? Thank you.

Hi,

It is possible that your son's nightmares and sporadic temperament are related to his fall, but it is difficult to say for certain without more information. Head injuries, even minor ones, can sometimes cause changes in behavior or mood, and it is possible that your son's fall has affected him in this way.

If your son continues to experience nightmares or changes in temperament, it may be worth consulting with his pediatrician to rule out any underlying medical issues. In the meantime, you can try to provide a calm and soothing environment for your son, with plenty of opportunities for rest and relaxation. This can help to reduce stress and anxiety, which may be contributing to his symptoms. If his symptoms persist or worsen, it is important to seek medical attention promptly.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. H. Kay, General & Family Physician
