What Causes Nightmares While On Effexor, Seroquel, Lorazepam?

I am a recovering alcoholic but have to take antidepressants (Effexor, Seroquel,) & anti-anxiety medication(Ativan (lorazepam). Sometimes I experience nightmares that lead to a depressive episode the entire following day. Could one of these medications be causing my nightmares? I also have been diagnosed with PTSD, GAD, & bipolar II.

Hi,

The antidepressants which you are consuming can have nightmares as a side effect. You could review the medications with your treating doctor and get it changed however PTSD can itself cause nightmares as a primary symptom.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Anoop Kumar, General & Family Physician
