Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.
There can be a number of psychological triggers that cause nightmares in adults. Most common ones are anxiety and depression. Also, it can be caused by certain sleep disorders. Withdrawal from medications and alcohol may also trigger nightmares. Taking anti-anxiety measures like practicing meditation, avoiding unnecessary worries and stress, practicing good sleep hygiene could help to overcome nightmares gradually. If needed, you may require psychotherapy to overcome it, for which you need to consult Psychiatrist.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
