What Causes Noise Of Air Pressure Being Released In Head?

Hi, I have a noise in my head that I hear when I m on my feet or sitting up,when I take a step or any movement, even when I suddenly move my eyes. The best way to describe it is it sounds like small amounts of air pressure being suddenly released. It has no feeling and there is no discomfort, but it is driving me crazy. This started about 3 years ago and it all of the sudden stopped, but it has started again about 3 weeks ago and is worse than ever. I m 47 Im very active, work outside everyday. I take blood pressure medicine and this started when I started taking the medicine. I told my doctor about it , but he didn t seemed concerned. But I don t understand why it stopped for so long with no changes in my medicine. I also take cholesterol medicine and started taking at the same time as the bp medicine. I m a big guy, worked out with weights for 15 years until about 7 years ago when shoulders failed.I m 6-4 and 275lbsbut have a 38 waistline. Can you help? Thanks Scott

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hi,

The noise of air pressure being suddenly released on specific movements for 3 years after taking blood pressure and lipid reducing medicines. It can be due to some blood pressure medicines cause congestion in upper respiratory passages like nose, nasopharynx, Eustachina tube dysfunction, affects opening of sinuses in nose and thus such a feeling. Even some problems with meninges and brain also can cause such feeling.

Hence, I would advise you to consult and ENT Surgeon for clinical evaluation, examination, relevant investigations of blood, CT scan of head and sinuses, ENT Endoscopy. Discuss about possible side effects of the medicines you are taking and take a note from him for your cardiologist to change over to other medicines which do not cause such side effects. Symptomatic and specific medicines as per the cause found will help you to have complete relief.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. T. Chandrakant, General Surgeon
