What Causes Nose Bleeding, Fever And Appetite Loss In Children?

A six year boy had fever for 2-3 days then suddenly stopped eating and drinking so could not give him medicines for fever. Then in the night had become unconscious and blood come out from mouth and nose. Now from last 10-12 days he is in half coma as per doctors and not opening his eyes. All the tests are normal except brain MRI and EEG. The boy shouts when the virus attacks on his brain. What is the cause of this disease and is it curable and if yes then how much time will it take to cure fully? Please answer.

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hi,

Noted the history about a 6 year old boy having fever for initial 2-3 day followed by stopping eating, drinking, inability taking medications, landed in semi-comatose state, MRI brain and EEG are abnormal.
All the history you have provided indicates the affection and brain and meninges, most probably encephalitis and/or meningitis.
To get the exact diagnosis it is necessary to have the following:
Opinions of a Pediatrician, Neurologist.
Tapping of spinal fluid to send for lab analysis.
Relevant tests of blood and so on.
All these will lead to a proper clinical diagnosis and supported by investigations to get a proper medical management to start with.
Surely, the prognosis is not very good although it is promising with advent of proper management.
The treatment will be long term and needs to be always under guidance of Specialists.
Proper care will help to avoid further complications like Bedsore and so on.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
