What Causes Nose Bleeding While On Heart Medication?

My husband is having a nose bleed that won t stop - he is on heart meds and apparently this is a side effect of one. We just went to the ER for 7 - 8 hours last week - I cannot do it again tonight - what do we do to stop the bleeding. Is it dangerous? S

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

Nose bleed has so many causes, yes some heart medicine that would make the blood thin ,may cause this .This include asprin, clopidogrel, or warfarin etc, so if she is on any of it , it should be stopped at the moment. You can put some pressure on the nose to stop the bleed like pinching the nose for few minutes. However if it do not stop, or you should take him to ER. Also going to ENT doctor, to see if there is anything in the nose , if no problem in the nose , you should be discussing the drugs with the cardiologist to stop any drug that can cause it.
