What Causes Nose Bleeding While Suffering From Deviated Nasal Septum?

Our 52 year old son has just been diagnosed with deviated nasal septum. When he was a toddler he would have terrible nose bleeds and sometimes it would be difficult to get the bleeding stopped. The doctor said it would get better once the membranes developed, which it did. Would this have been a warning sign? Thank you for your time. A concerned Mother. YYYY@YYYY

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service.
I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

Deviated nasal septum can cause differential air current in the right and left nostrils which leads to drying up of septum and triggers bleeding. If he has got recurrent bleeding episodes, then it would be better to go for surgical correction. Consult an ENT specialist and get evaluated.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Shinas Hussain
