What Causes Nose Congestion While Suffering From A Deviated Septum?

I have a deviated septum with enlarged turbinates & use afrin-type sprays off and on. Since late October, my nose has become more stuffy than usual so I have used the spray more often and have not taken more than 1 spray within any 24 hour period. I have taken the sptay in each of the past 3 days, usually around dinner time, to make eating easier and sleeping through the night possible. However, when I wake up the next morning, my left nostril quickly becomes very congested and I am unable to clear it up. Could this be rebound congestion?

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hi,

Excessive use of nasal decongestants can cause rebound congestion. You can try saline nasal drops instead. If symptoms persists better to consult an ENT specialist and plan for surgical correction.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Dr. Shinas Hussain,
