What Causes Numbness And Pain In The Leg After An Abscess Drainage?

Hi I recently had an abscess drained that was located in my colon, at the end of the procedure it felt like my leg was on fire or someone thru acid on it. Since this procedure was done I have had severe numbness along with pain, it has been over a month and it seems to be getting worse! I mentioned it to my doctor and he said there are many nerves located where they drained my infection, should i be worried?

Hi,

Sorry to hear what you are going through. The symptoms you describe could be caused by:

* peripheral neuropathy
* Neurologic disorders like MS
* ionic imbalance (like low calcium, low magnesium)
* vitamin deficiency

Nerve destruction/injury during a surgical procedure may give such a presentation. However, abscess drained in colon may not necessarily be the cause.

I will suggest you try the following:

- Eat well and health with enough vegetables

- Take B complex vitamins

- Your doctor may also prescribe a nucleotide based drug like Nucleo

- CMP forte if need be.

See you doctor for tests like serum electrolytes, full blood count, electromyogram, liver and kidney function tests and if need be, a brain scan.

Hope this will help.

Best regards,
Dr. Mbuomboh Veranso
