Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Hi. I ve been feeling my down lip numb for most of the day. I went to the mirror now and i realized its swollen. The only thing i feel beside this is a feeling of something poking in my back always in the same point. Should I go see a doctor in the emergency?
Numbness and swelling of lower lip as per your query is because of damage to inferior alveolar nerve, nerve which supplies lower lip, teeth and gums. This damage to nerve can occur because of badly carious or infected tooth in lower jaw in molar or premolar area. It could be possible due to virus infecting this nerve such as herpes zoster or herpes simplex.
Neurological symptom of numbness occurs along with peripheral neuropathy as well which can cause feeling of back poking. I would suggest you to visit dentist for though examination. If a dentist could not find any oral region for your cause consult neurologist for this.
Hope your concern has been resolved.
