What Causes Numbness And Tinging In Tongue, Gums And Face?

About a month ago I began having numbness and tingling in my tongue, face. I am a 44year old female. It is my Right side. I do not have loss of muscle control. I am not extra tired. My tongue is numb/tingly on the right side. I cannot tell hot or cold. I cannot taste. My bottom gums are numb without tingling. My face has spotty numbness on the right side including my bottom lip but excluding my forehead. I have had MRIs and tons of blood work. Have you heard of this? Do you have a different lead I look into? thank you patti

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

Tongue numbness or tingling can be a sign of a stroke or a transient ischemic attack (TIA). Since your MRI is normal, this diagnosis is ruled out. Kindly rule out diabetes, multiple sclerosis and migraine which could be the cause of such tingling sensation in the body. Nerve conduction studies should be done to assess facial nerve function.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
