What Causes Numbness And Tingling In The Left Arm?

Was involved in a MVA YESTERDAY and taken to hospital where they did ct scans and X-rays. All came back with no significant findings. I all ready have had a level 2 ACDF OF C4,5,6. Fusion of L4-5 Laminectomy of L5, post lateral thoracatomy. Diabetes, phrenic nerve issue. I also have a spinal cord stimulator in my back. Since tha accident the grip in my left hand is weak. Sometimes swollen. Numb and tingling.

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hi,

Noted the preexisting problems of ACDF of C-4,5 and 6; L4-5 laminectomy and additional problems. But the symptoms of weak grip in left hand along with tingling and numbness developed after the accident indicate additional trauma to the neck causing the nerve compression either by muscle spasm or so.

I would advise you to go to the Neurosurgeon urgently for clinical evaluation, examination, MRI or CT scan as advised. These will get the correct diagnosis and thus give a chance of proper management.

Control of diabetes is a must.

Take care.

Hope I have answered your query. Feel free to ask for further relevant queries.

Regards,
Dr. T Chandrakant,
General Surgeon
