What Causes Numbness And Tingling Sensation All Over The Body?

I have suffered from anxiety for years. On Alprazolam. Today, all day. About every 20-30 minutes, my chest gets tight, starting in my right shoulder, it tingles, burns, feels numd as well as hurts. Then moves across my body into the other arm. Mostly from the shoulder to the elbow but at times goes to the hands and they become numb and tingling as well. Very hard to move them and feels extremely weak once it passes. Takes about 5-10 to feel normal again. Making me nauseous and adding to my anxiety.

Hi,

Alprazolam can help somewhat with anxiety but this class of medications, benzodiazepines are not the first line for anxiety treatment.

They are normally used along with other medications and counselling, for effective control of anxiety. The SSRI family of meds are first line meds for anxiety. This includes medications such as Zoloft, Paxil, Celexa, Cymbalta etc. Welbutrin is another option as well.

It would be best to consider one of these, your doctor can determine which may work best.
