What Causes Numbness And Tingling Sensation In The Hands?

I am 70 years. For a good while now when I lay down or even have my arm on the arm of the sofa or on a table in front of me my hand starts to tingle with a little numbness and my hand, especially my thumb and my pointer finger start to burn. The only way it goes away is if I dangle my arm, especially when I am sleeping I have to hold it over the bed pointed towards the floor. Eventually it will get better but it is happening more and more and lasting much longer. It is almost impossible to sleep at night. Mostly my left hand--occasionally will mildly happen in right side.

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hi,

Well, these are signs of certain neuropathic issues and this is most commonly seen in some metabolic disorders such as diabetes,of the most common causes of peripheral neuropathy, accounting for about 30% of cases. In diabetic neuropathy, tingling and other symptoms often first develop in both feet and go up the legs, followed by tingling and other symptoms that affect both hands and go up the arms.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
