What Causes Numbness And Weakness In The Arm After A Flu Shot?

I had the flu shot about five days ago. I noticed from the site of the injection all the way down my arm to my thumb numbness and weakness. Feels like it possibly affected a nerve. Is this a normal reaction? if so will it go away or what s your recommendation? Thanks, Suzanne

Radiologist 's  Response
Hi,

The needle might have been close to a nerve ending when you were given the flu shot and you are right about a nerve being affected. In most cases, this will resolve by itself in a week. However, if the numbness stays for longer than a week or 10 days like in your case then it is important to see a doctor to know if there is any local complication.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Vivek Chail,
