What Causes Numbness Around Mouth And Excess Salivation After Taking Amoxicillin?

So I was just recently in the hospital due to a upper respiratory infection, pink eye, and (infection in my throat?) The doc gave me amox, eye drops, and mucinex, all of a sudden yesterday under my nose all the way down to my jaw is numb and feels like I am salivating out of my mouth. Which I do have something peeling or coming from around my mouth almost like my lips are constantly peeling. It s really weird. Its driving me crazy. It s feels like my skin is dry and peeling and I can t open my mouth properly but it s not and I have caked lotion on it so I know that s not it? Please help?

Hi Dear ,

Welcome to HCM,

Understanding your concern .As per you query you have numbness around mouth and excess salivation after taking Amoxicillin . Well there can be many reasons for symptome you mention in query like physical nerve injury , nerve entrapment , neuropathy, diabetic neuropathy, multiple sclerosis and diabetes . Sometimes numbness can also occur due to condition known as bell's palsy . In your case the symptoms can also occur due to side effects medicine like amoxicillin . I would suggest you to consult neurologist for proper examination . Doctor will examine physically , order nerve conduction test and blood test . Doctor may prescribe muscle relaxant , anti inflammatory , supplement like neurobion forte and recommend face muscle exercises and physical therapy . Doctor may also refer you to ENT specialist or dentist if he/she find problem to be related to respiratory track infection or oral infection . For now apply warm compresses on lip on eye area , maintain proper oral hygiene and take steam twice a day .
