What Causes Numbness Around The Mouth While Wearing Full Mask?
I have sleep apnea and wear a full mask covering mouth and nose. in the same outline as mask my mouth is numb. when I talk a lot my speech gets a little slurry. most of all numbness is in my lips. my doctor said it is probably where I had my mask real tight so it wouldn t leak and I killed nerves around my mouth. sound right ?
As per your complain and presentation of symptoms numbness in mouth around the same outline of mouth over which there is placement of the mask outline and if you wear the mask very tight then there is continuous compression over the terminal nerves around the mouth and compression of nerves is causing numbness..
There are more of a chance that there is nerve compression and not complete damage to nerve but anything can be confirmed only after a thorough clinical evaluation and investigations [if required]..
As of now you should not wear the mask very tight and also start taking vitamin B complex supplements [vitamin B6 an B12] at it helps in nerve regeneration and recovery.. Do warm compresses over the numb area of mouth.. If there is no improvement even after one month consult a Neurophysician and get evaluated..
Hope this helps..
Thanks and regards.
