What Causes Numbness From The Hip To Knee After Inguinal Hernia Repair?

Hi. Question on my recent inguinal hernia repair. Since the repair completed 12 days ago, I have had numbness in my left leg from hip to knee, on the front/inside of my thigh. Numbness and mild pain that comes and goes. Have a follow up appointment in 2 days (exactly 14 days after the procedure). Question some of you may be able to answer: Will the numbness / pain go away on its own? if not, can it be repaired? if so what are the repair options Some background: 41 year old male Diagnosed left inguinal hernia and umbilical hernia Repaired both on 12 days ago Mesh used for left inguinal hernia Most swelling has gone down at time of this writing (12 days post procedure) More than happy to provide more details - please reply. Thank you

Pathologist and Microbiologist 's  Response
Hello,

Post inguinal hernia repair, numbness in left leg from hip to knee may be caused by injury to the nerve supplying the left leg region.
I suggest you to consult your surgeon for numbness.
In some instances wherein the damage is not complete, sensation appears after few days.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
