What Causes Numbness In Arm?

im 27 and i have low thyroid .... my right arm gets numb and tingles if i have it bent and at night it gets so numb and tingleing that sometimes it feels like my arm its not there i have to shake my arm to get feelin back it in what causes this and it it dangerous?

From the symptoms it looks like
1.Carpal Tunnel Syndrome.(CTS)
We have a sheath called Flexor Retinaculum which lies over the wrist..
It form a tunnel over the wrist..The structures to the hand goes through this tunnel.Sometimes the tunnel becomes narrow and compresses the nerve (median).This can cause similar complaints
This complaint is common in Hypothyroid patients.
A nerve conduction study can help the diagnosis
2.Other cause is Cervical pathology
Any compression of nerve from the neck can cause radiating pain from the neck to the upper limbs.It can also cause numbness
X-Ray of the cervical spine can be done for the diagnosis
I think these are the probable differential diagnosis..
