What Causes Numbness In Hand After Stab Injury?

I recently accidentally stabbed myself in the palm of my left hand while pitting an avocado. the wound is healing rather well (I have kept it clean and free from infection), the only problem I\'m having is that since the accident the area above the wound all the way to the top of my index finger is numb. I didn\'t go to a doctor but I\'m wondering if I should or if I should just wait and give it time to heal. My finger has had swelling since this occurred. I do have full movement in my finger also with the excretion of where the swelling is.
