What Causes Numbness In Head After A Head Injury?

My daughter (21) fell Saturday night & hit her head (temple area), requiring 5 stitches. She still has some numbness on her head behind this area. Is this normal? Also - she has should length hair & they sewed some of her hair into the stitches. Can this lead to an issue with healing?

Hello. This is Dr. Praveen and I will be answering your question today.

Sorry to hear about the fall. Good that the wound was attended to on time. Well, stitches ideally should be applied only after removing the hair in the area. That keeps the area clean and ideal for healing. In your daughters case, you need to just dress the area well and wait for a week when the sutures will be removed. It should'nt cause much trouble except for the minor sting she will experience when the hair is relieved from the scab that forms around the wound. It wouldn't directly affect wound healing.

Wishing her good health. Please feel free to drop in any more queries if need be.
Warm regards,
Dr Praveen Jeyapathy
