What Causes Numbness In Leg After Having Leg Surgery?

Had surgery on left leg on the 23rd of July and have been told to stay in bed for 3 weeks. I get up to go to washroom and eat approximately 10 times a day I get up. Nurse comes to my home to. Change the dressing and say it is looking good. Now out of the blue my right leg is numb. Should I be concerned?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,
I understand your concern.
The numbness in leg,you have after leg surgery seems to be due to pressure on a nerve supplying leg by the swelling of the tissue while it's being healed or is probably infected wound/ stitch abscess / Entrapment of nerve in wound stitching ..
You should consult your surgeon for your problem. With asuitable antibiotic/ anti inflammatory drugs with serratopewptidaze along with Vitamin B12 , may relieve the numbness
Alternatively a MRI/ CT sacn would point on entrapped nerve & it's site.. which can be relieved by surgery.
Doctor is to decide about lne of management depending on the situation.
But rest assured, if action is taken in time.. you will be relieved of it .
Thanks.
Thanks.
