What Causes Numbness In Legs Along With Ankle Pain?

Hello, quick question; Whenever I sit with my legs crossed on the ground, or in a chair with one leg over the other one or both legs fall asleep. This occurs practically every time I do so within a somewhat short amount of time. This has happened since I was little, and because of that I started sitting ON my legs, which does not help either, because then both fall asleep, and it hurts my ankles. Is there a chance I m must doing this wrong from the get go? I wasn t a huge fan of sitting Indian style when I was young. Long story. Anywho, other than that am I pinching a nerve? Is there some way I could avoid sleeping legs?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
HI, thanks for using healthcare magic

As you mentioned, it is likely that a nerve is being affected by the sitting position causing the numbness/sleep sensation in the legs.

Some persons have episodes of altered sensation due to other causes such as: (a)vitamin b12 or folate deficiency,
(b)diabetes,
(c)liver or kidney disease ,
(d)exposure to toxins,
(e)side effect of medication,
(f)hormonal or autoimmune diseases
(g)infection

Blood tests for diabetes, liver or kidney disease, vitamin b12 or folate deficiency, screening for infection.

I hope this helps
