What Causes Numbness In Lower Jaw And Sore Teeth After A Molar Extraction?
Hi, my husband had a molar out two days ago and he's saying his lower jaw is feeling a little numb today and the teeth either side of the extraction are feeling a bit sore. Is this normal? Or do you think it's an infection setting in. I have no experience of having teeth extracted.
I have gone through your query and can understand your concerns..
As per your complain slight numbness at the extraction site 2 days after extraction can be due to inflammation that is caused to the tissues during extraction procedure due to trauma..
But in case is there is considerable numbness then it can be due to hitting of the nerve with the injection needle during giving local anaesthesia post extraction.. It can cause numbness of the side on which the injection was given and can last for few days and gradually improve..
I would suggest you to wait and watch for about a week and in case if there is no reduction in numbness you should consult your dentist and get evaluated so that the exact cause of the numbness can be diagnosed and treated accordingly..
As of now do cool compresses over the face along with following the medications and post extraction instructions as advised by your dentist..
Regards..
